Looe is an old seafaring town with a long history of fishing and smuggling. Just 17 miles west of Plymouth. East and West Looe are split by the river running out to sea with a landmark seven arched stone bridge linking the two sides. The town `centre` is at East Looe, with its cobbled streets, quaint cottages, shops and the busy fishing harbour.
The Fieldhead is situated in West Looe, only a fifteen minute walk along the waterside to the centre of town. In summer a passenger ferry plys across the harbour mouth. The town beach is popular in the summer months while the rock pools and sandy coves below the hotel provide interest all year round.
Built in 1896 as a grand private residence, The Fieldhead is now a traditional, warm and friendly country house style hotel offering a very high standard of comfort and service. It occupies a prime, elevated position with unrivalled sea views from virtually every room across Looe Bay to Rame Head and beyond. Fascinating Looe Island, still in private hands is but a stones throw from the hotel, while the famous Eddystone Lighthouse is 12 miles away on the horizon.
