Temple Sowerby House Hotel and Restaurant is a country hotel of character with cosy rooms, award-winning food and a peaceful, old walled garden. Set beneath the majestic sweep of the Pennines, dominated by Cross Fell, yet just a few minute’s drive from the shores of Ullswater, Temple Sowerby is an ideal touring base in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The house is a Grade II listed building, dating from 1727 and enlarged 100 years later, in classical Georgian style. Now sensitively restored to create just 12 individually styled en-suite bedrooms, there is a choice of de-luxe rooms with aqua-spa baths, large superior rooms with king-size beds or cosy standard rooms. The Terrace overlooking the garden is a peaceful setting for afternoon tea or drinks before dinner. Or on cooler days, choose a spot by the fireside in one of the comfortable reception rooms. Dinner by candlelight will be a highlight of your stay. The menus blend contemporary and traditional British styles whilst featuring the best of seasonal, local and garden-grown produce. It’s a perfect setting too for celebrating a special occasion either in the restaurant or in the adjacent private dining room overlooking the walled garden.
