Off the beaten track in the heart of the Cotswolds runs the River Eye under small stone bridges and between honey coloured houses. A tiny part of England that the rapacious path of progress seemed to have left alone. In this Elysian scene, stands Lower Slaughter Manor. It was built in 1658 by Valentine Strong for the High Sheriff of Gloucestershire, in whose family it remained for the next 300 years.

Lower Slaughter Manor is a true country house hotel with a wonderful feeling of spaciousness, style and dignity where the experienced staff tend the needs of visitors in the good old-fashioned manner. The family home atmosphere persists in a warm and welcoming fashion as in days gone by.

The Manor is furnished with antiques and four-poster beds that blend happily with elegant china, beautiful paintings and sumptuous soft furnishings. Every bedroom is en-suite and has its own personalty with a decanter of sherry, home-made biscuits and English toffees to welcome you.

All this is a good enough reason to enjoy this home-from-home but there is a much more compelling purpose to this grand old Manor: the food - above all the food! The restaurant has delighted the critics leaving them bereft of superlatives.
