As well as being a delightful home from home, Channings boasts a famous form resident, the intrepid polar explorer, Sir Ernest Shackleton who lived here from 1904 until 1910. The uppermost floor of the hotel have now been renovated in a maritime style in recognition of Sir Ernest Shackleton`s endeavours, with portholes along the corridors and an Edwardian theme running throughout the room décor. Many of the rooms offer breath-taking views of Edinburgh, while others over-look the private gardens (which are yours to enjoy in the warmer months as well as a sun terrace which captures the sun all day)!
