Ashford-in-the-Water lies in a limestone ravine of the River Wye in the Peak District National Park. Mentioned in the Domesday Book it is a picture-postcard village of quaint stone-built cottages. Near the village centre stands Riverside House, an ivy-clad Georgian mansion, bounded by an acre of mature garden and river frontage. Oak panelling and inglenook fireplaces in the lounge create a sense of warmth - an ideal place to chat or curl up with a book.
Using seasonally available game from the nearby Chatsworth estate and freshly caught fish, Master Chef John Whelan creates a series of exciting dishes. Dinner, complemented by fine wines, is served at antique tables set with gleaming silver, sparkling glassware and illuminated by candle-light. All the individually decorated bedrooms, with hand-made soft furnishings, have private facilities. Ideally situated for visits to Chatsworth, Haddon Hall and Hardwick Hall, the hotel is also convenient for access to the Derbyshire Dales, Lathkill and Dovedale. Two day inclusive breaks are also available.
