Gardens (with outdoor games of draughts) lead down to the hotel`s own jetties. Beautiful scenery abounds in this treasured countryside, much of it preserved by the foresight of children`s author Beatrix Potter who invested her book earnings into buying parcels of land in the Lake District ensuring its preservation when she bequeathed it to the National Trust.
