A small eclectic bolt hole, this 1651 Mill House in the Northern Border of the Lakes has a stream racing past cascading over a waterfall in the grounds.

Richard and Eleanor Quinlan belong to that band of innkeepers who do their own thing instinctively. Richard comes out to greet you, helps with luggage and invites you down for drinks `whenever you`re ready`. Meanwhile, Eleanor has been cooking up five courses of heaven, all home-made and organic where possible.

The Old Mill, wrapped in Clematis Montana, has it`s own sitting room, and you can fall asleep here to the sound of the river. DetailsRatings/Awards:AA 1 Star
