The house was originally built in 1879 as a holiday home for a wealthy mill owner, it was constructed to the highest standard from local materials including Lakeland slate. The gentleman used to rent out the property to family and friends, among them Beatrix Potter and her family, during the period 1905 to 1913, amid the peace and tranquillity of the country home Beatrix Potter wrote and illustrated several of her wonderful stories in particular Timmy Tiptoes in 1911 and Pigling Bland in 1913. She eventually bought the house for her mother to live in after she had been widowed.

Lindeth Howe is situated in 6 acres of private gardens, a mile south of bowness on Windermere, a perfect place to relax, and enjoy excellent food with friendly service.

The perfect place to act as a base for exploring the Lake District
