Tucked away in the beautiful Moffat hills by the banks of Even Water lies Auchen Castle the perfect base for exploring Southern and Central Scotland. An impressive mansion built in 1849 its lawned gardens contain some of the most diverse and mature woodlands in the area. It was originally a home of General Johnstone and later that of Sir William Younger. Now one of Southern Scotland`s most charismatic hotels and restaurants it has retained many of its original features.

Our idyllic gardens and sweeping panorama of upper and Annandale`s lush green hills can be viewed from your comfortably furnished rooms. It goes without saying that every room whether it be put a double, twin or family, has bath/shower, television, tea-tray, telephone, listening service and trouser press. We also have a night porter, and full laundry and shoeshine service. Auchen Castle prides itself on good old-fashioned standards, while providing every modern facility.

Whet your appetite by strolling around the gardens before being served the very best in fresh local produce in our award-winning restaurant. Prime Galloway beef for example, or locally caught trout and salmon. We also cater for vegetarians and those on special diets, while our extensive selection of fine wines will leave you spoiled for choice.

The perfect wedding setting...

We offer our special couples Scottish hospitality at its very best! Whether it be a grand or modest affair the choice of taking your wedding vows in our elegant lounge, the drawing room or weather permitting, outside in our Italian fountain garden with breathtaking surrounding views.

Auchen Castle hotel promotes an ideal venue for national company`s to meet within a central location. We pride ourselves in being able to tailor make to each company`s needs whether it be for the 24 hour delegate, day delegate or why not consider copyright entertainment, eg casino nights, murder mysteries, traditional Scottish evenings and even more.
