We are a small Victorian Country House Hotel overlooking the Solent and Isle of Wight which hosts the world famous Cowes week. Many of the nautical attractions of the British Navy including H.M.S Victory, the Mary Rose and the Submarine Museum are ten minutes away. Local sport and leisure facilities include sailing and watersports, golf, tennis, swimming, ice skating and indoor sports. Alverbank House was built in 1842 and for several years many of the most powerful political figures of the day, including the Duke of Wellington and the Prime Minister, Sir Robert Peel regularly visited. Later, Queen Victoria`s second son, Prince Alfred lived here whilst attending Naval College. Later still, Prince Edward, the Prince of Wales, found the house an ideal escape from the formalities of Osborne House, just across the Solent. It is rumoured that Lillie Langtry was a frequent visitor here too. Nowadays, the Hotel has a very strong reputation for good food and Weddings. |
