The New Inn was new in the 16th Century: if it was anywhere else it would be called Ye Olde Inne, but this is England, and anything less than five hundred years old is regarded as dangerously parvenu. The figure in the black cloak whose presence is generally heralded by a jangling of keys is, if not proprietor Angela Kimmett, probably the Inns resident ghost, an amicable soul who clearly fancied an after-life career as an hotel inn spectre. When people describe this fabulous establishment as their spiritual home, the chances are that they are referring to the splendid range available in the Courtyard Bar.
Coln St Aldwyns is a delightful Cotswold village in the middle of some beautiful verdant countryside: Cirencester, Oxford, Bath, Cheltenham and Stratford upon Avon are all within easy exploring distance. The New Inns proprietors are totally dedicated - one could almost say kimmetted - to providing first class hospitality: could this be the reason why so many people describe it as their favourite haunt?
